Only one person has ever told Autumn Godfrey "I love you." And that person wasn't even human—but Autumn's robotic playmate and babysitter, Elly. Mysteriously, Autumn hasn't seen Elly since Autumn was seven, but now, with the help of Jude—a robotic prostitute with attitude—she might just find out what happened all those years ago. |
I just played this game a few hours ago, and it was very enjoyable in all aspects! There were no choices to make: I did not have to move my touchpad (I am using a laptop) throughout my reading, which I usually have to do for most VNs that I read. The characters--both the humans and the androids--were all very unique (particularly Elly and Zoe) and well-developed: I enjoyed reading their dialogues with each other and with Autumn. The artwork--backgrounds, sprites, CGs, and character designs--was all very good, although obviously not professional, and it was all in color: nothing was in black and white. The text was easy for me to read: the font was plain and easily understood, and I could clearly read its white color against the background box. The story was also very interesting, despite its short length: I spent barely an hour reading the entire VN! I laughed a lot and cried a little, and I connected with all of the characters [to varying extents]. It was a very enjoyable read for me, and I hope anyone who reads this comment will also want to read it!
ReplyDelete"I found the game to be simply amazing. I liked everything about it.
ReplyDeleteThe art initially wasn't my style but as I read more into the vn, I found them more and more appealing.
I thought the main character was really down to earth and unique which made the story unpredictable. I found all of the characters really like-able and important to the story.
The storyline was really powerful and you can easily go with the flow of the story. I thought it was very good and interesting.
The ending was really touching. Overall, just wonderful."

"-Oh wow, what an amazing storyline. ;u; I almost cried near the end. The storytelling was fluid and never boring, and I was immersed in the world of androids very quickly. I also liked how you left the reader a bit of hope for Jude and Elly at the end by leaving their data on a disk. ^^
ReplyDelete-Beautiful CG graphics! I particularly liked the kiss scene showing the two sides of the picture.
-I was just curious, but would it be possible to make it so that you can't look into the ""game"" folder and see the graphics/cg files in there? It's just that I accidentally clicked in and got spoiled... xD I'm not sure if this is just Renpy, but it's something to think about if you're planning on making more games. :)
-Overall, amazing work!"

"- Truth be told, I was fairly unimpressed with the plot. The characters are bland and flat, there are enough plotholes left open that I'm more focused on them than the story, and a tried and true plot. One of the biggest plotholes that bugged me was why the robots disobeyed orders. This is a very key point, it influences the entire story. It is addressed to a small degree, but doesn't answer the question of why only her. After reading the bonus, the only answer I have is Deus Ex Machina, which should never be an answer.
ReplyDeleteThe story itself isn't bad (girl loves robot, robot is taken away, girl hangs out with new robot, girl uses new robot to bring old robot back to life, girl smashes evidence but saves both robots, girl moves on). It isn't anything new (replace robot with girl/boy) but it does a decent job of telling it.
-Art has me with mixed thoughts. The sprites and CGs were wonderful, diverse, and used perfectly. Problem: they didn't match the backgrounds in the slightest. The style mismatch between the BGs and the CGs that would follow would successfully distract and pull me out of the story.
- Interface was Renpy default. As I've mentioned in other reviews, it is very easy to do simple modifications to this interface to increase the visual appeal. Not doing so does very little to appeal to me, especially when compared to the overall solid quality of the art. It's a sad disconnect that detracts from the overall strengths of the art. The bonus gallery was a nice touch, but I do have a gripe about it.
Okay, this is hard to put, but... the bonus gallery was enlightening, but it should have been tied into the story. It tries to address the many, many questions and qualms I had with the plot, but the PLOT should address those. It also raises philosophical questions I never had, making me feel like it was trying to create meaning and depth in an otherwise clean-cut slice of life story.
-Music often did not fit the parts where it was added. However, strange as this is to say, the silent moments were very well played, adding the right amount of tension and mood at key moments.
Overall, I can tell I'm not in the key demographic of this story. To me, it is a fairly straightforward romance story. Nothing wrong with that, but the problems with plotholes and art consistency hurt what attachment to the story I was starting to develop."
